Forest Pest Awareness Month

August

The Department of Environmental Management, in a cooperative effort with the USDA and Animal Plant Health Inspection Services (APHIS), will be working to increase public awareness of the Asian Longhorned Beetle (ALB) throughout the month of August, which has been designated as Forest Pest Awareness Month.

This is a Rhode Island designation beginning in 2015, because August is when the Asian Long Horned Beetle may best be detected, should it have arrived in the state. Every Rhode Islander is asked to be on the lookout for this critter, which can destroy our forests if given half a chance. See the web link for more information.
