This seems to be a Rhode Island event in April to help high school students understand what it costs to live in the real world. Pawtucket Credit Union supports this, and schools such as Lincoln School participated in 2013 as well as in 2014. Davies Career-Tech High School, a Pawtucket high school, Smithfield High School, and Toll Gate School -- plus probably several others -- apparently also participated in a Real World Day at Bryant University in 2011 and 2012.
Encouraging financial literacy is a good idea! From the Pawtucket Credit Union community outreach page:
"Pawtucket Credit Union hosts area high schools who participate in a one day event where students in our financial literacy program learn how to budget their “annual salary” in an effective manner."
