The John Carter Brown Library and the Redwood Library and Athenaeum are Rhode Island institutions with distinct, but complementary, collections. To lay the foundation for a Rhode Island History Digital Collection the two libraries are collaborating on a project to scan the unique documents representing the earliest chapters of the region. There are about 70 items, dating from the 1640s to about 1840. Most are 18th century. There is an index of names, places and some subjects.
