CALIS Comprehensive Adult Literacy Information System (CALIS), a database maintained by RI Department of Education (RIDE). The RFP for the CALIS system was issued in February 2006.
CASAS Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment Systems.From the website:CASAS is a nonprofit organization that focuses on assessment and curriculum development of basic skills for youth and adults. CASAS is used by federal and state government agencies, business and industry, community colleges, education and training providers, correctional facilities, and technical programs.CASAS offers the NEDP - National External Diploma Program
COZ Child Opportunity Zone. From RI Department of Education: "Rhode Island’s Child Opportunity Zones (COZs) are a full service community school model of school-linked family centers that bring schools, families and communities together to promote success in school for all children and youth." Read more... This is not just a Rhode Island acronym. See, especially this document.There is a RI Partnership for Community Schools, with COZs in several communities. RI COZs are more than 20 years old.
ESL (ESOL, ELL) English as a Second Language. Also known as ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) and ELL (English Language Learners). Providential Gardener uses ESL as the preferred acronym.

NEDP National External Diploma Program Sometimes this is referred to as EDP. TASC Test Assessing Secondary CompletionFrom the website:TASC Test Assessing Secondary Completion™ is a state-of-the-art, affordable national high school equivalency assessment that assesses five subject areas including Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies. It measures examinees’ levels of achievement relative to that of graduating high school seniors, and career and college readiness, as outlined by the Common Core State Standards.
WAEP Workplace Adult Education Project. This is a program of ILSR (Institute for Labor Studies and Research): "Funding comes from RIDE and City of Providence First Source Program." This project provides adult literacy training at the workplace and in the community for about 250 workers/students per year.
