Hey Kids! Go Outside Already!

Last night (March 26), Tom Ashbrook (NPR, On Point) spent an hour considering the shift in one generation from hours of unstructured outdoor play time to the current situation, which is (gasp!) 4-7 minutes a day outside. He interviewed Dr. Scott Sampson, dinosaur paleontologist and chief curator at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. Author of the new book, “How To Raise A Wild Child: The Art and Science of Falling In Love With Nature,” (also host and science advisor of the PBS Kids series, “Dinosaur Train.” (@drscottsampson) and Erin Kenny, co-founder and director of the Ceadarsong Nature School. Author of “Forest Kindergartens: The Cedarsong Way.” (@CedarSongSchool).

We in Rhode Island cannot do enough to reverse this trend. One initiative of note is the Partnership for Providence Parks Urban Wildlife Refuge.
